The Strong Museum of Play and SSA Group challenged us to create a FUNDLE box that could hold 4-6 Strong Museum gift shop items for families to take home. The structure must also have a second use for consumers.
This was a group project with Francesca Delaney (RIT Graphic Design), Liam Huff (RIT Industrial Design), and Herman Chen (RIT Industrial Design).
Out of the 8 projects in the class, ours was chosen by a variety of disciplined judges.
Research & Goals
We visited the museum as a group, taking pictures and analyzing all exhibits and collections.
One of the first exhibits guests see when they arrive is Rainbow Reef      & Digital Aquarium, where children can color a fish and scan it to the aquarium.
Most of the most notable and nostalgic exhibits of The Strong is   Reading Adventureland, which is described as a "life-size pop-up book".
Our goals for this project were to combine functionality and customizability with fun.
Packaging
For our final form, we chose to resemble a shopping bag. This design not only can hold numerous items, but is also easy to carry. The board is attached to the inside walls of the package, which would be removed before playing. All the game pieces are also inside the bag, and would be perforated so they easily pop out.

Accessibility
Taking inspiration from the iconic, Candy Land, players move along the path based on color. Taking into consideration that over 12 million Americans are colorblind, we added another element. Each color is paired with a shape. The game pieces located within the package are fully colorable and customizable, calling back to the Rainbow Reef Exhibit. Additionally, we included Spanish on all copy of the package to make the game even more accessible to a wider audience.
